Alarm
Acoustic signal that sounds at a certain set time.

Automatic mechanical movement
Mechanical movement that derives its energy from the movement of the wearer's arm via an integrated rotor and thus does not need to be wound manually.

Blued screws
Hardened steel screws that are stress-relieved by heating them to290°C, whereby they assume a permanent deep blue color.

Caliber
In earlier times, "caliber" was used to refer to the diameter of the movement. Today, it is used synonymously with the movement itself.

Chronograph/Chronoscope
"Chronograph" is used today to refer to a clock or watch that is equipped with the function of a stopwatch. However, this use of the term is not entirely correct since "chronograph" literally means "time writer" (Greek gráphein = to write). Because the additional function does not record the time but rather simply shows the time, the correct term, which is also used among specialists, is actually "chronoscope" (Greek skopia = to watch, look at).

Complication
Refers to functions (e. g., power reserve display, perpetual calendar) of a mechanical clock or watch apart from the time display. "Complications" make the design of the movement more complex.

Countdown
Function that uses an adjustable counter that counts backward.

Darkness reserve
Amount of time that a solar or radio-controlled solar watch will continue to run in complete darkness once fully charged.
